07 February 2025

The Malian government has adopted a bill raising the tax on the provision of telecom services to 7%, compared to 5% previously.

The country expects a capital gain of approximately 13 billion CFA francs annually, the turnover of the sector having reached 649 billion CFA francs in 2023.

According to statistics from the Malian Authority for the Regulation of Telecommunications, ICT and Posts (AMRTP), the number of mobile phone subscriptions in Mali increased from 19.7 million in 2013 to 25.25 million in 2023. Over the same period, the number of Internet subscribers increased from 3.4 million to 13.4 million, an increase of 294%. The number of fixed-line subscribers increased from 126,362 to 347,704. The sector's turnover stood at 384 billion FCFA in 2013 and has continued to grow since then.

Once implemented, this increase in the tax on telecom services can contribute to increasing the Malian government's revenues.
