The high-level meeting was attended by ZICTA Director General Collins Mbulo and Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele.
“There is a need for the two institutions to proactively work together in fighting towards a common goal of preserving national security,” said Zyeele.
Mbulo had earlier met with Zambia Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Oscar Msitu Nyoni to discuss how they could collaborate on cyber security.
“With the coming of digital transformation, there are many challenges coming into cyberspace hence the need for digital and cyber security,” said Mbulo.
The main opposition Patriotic Front however has accused ZICTA of abusing its mandate to regulate and oversee digital communication in Zambia, ensuring a safe and fair cyberspace. The political party has since petitioned the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, accusing authorities of using cyber-crime legislation to target bloggers and members of the opposition.
