ARPCE fines MNOs

25 October 2024

The Algerian Post and Electronic Communications Regulatory Authority (ARPCE) has imposed heavy financial penalties on Mobilis, Djezzy and Ooredoo.

These penalties, exceeding 1 billion Algerian dinars, follow shortcomings noted in the network coverage and quality of services. They were decided after a control and evaluation campaign conducted by ARPCE throughout the national territory. The evaluation, which focused on the GSM, 3G and 4G networks of the operators concerned, revealed shortcomings in relation to the obligations stipulated in their specifications.

Faced with these failures, the regulator issued formal notices in March 2022, requiring operators to correct the problems identified. However, despite these warnings, certain obligations were not respected, leading to the imposition of financial penalties.

With this measure, ARPCE intends to enforce the regulations in force in the telecommunications sector in Algeria. Improving the quality of telecom services will not only allow populations to have a better communication experience and benefit from the opportunities offered by digital technology, but also allow operators to strengthen customer loyalty.
