Mali explores national audit of telco services

05 September 2024

The Malian Authority for the Regulation of Telecommunications, ICT and Posts (AMRTP) is preparing a national audit of the quality of mobile services.

According to AMRTP, the audit aims to assess radio coverage, voice service, interoperability, audio quality, SMS services, data services and international communications. At the end of the assessment, a comparative analysis of the different networks will be established, as well as a ranking of the different operators by service.

This initiative is part of the regular checks provided for by law to ensure that Malian telecom operators comply with the quality of service and coverage obligations contained in their specifications. In the event of breaches, the texts in force provide for a financial penalty, the amount of which is proportionate to the seriousness. However, the said amount must not exceed 3% of the telecom operator's turnover. This rate may be increased to 5% in the event of a new violation of the same obligation.
