Guinea and Mali plan to interconnect their fibre optic networks - an agreement was signed between the Guinea National Backbone Management and Operation Company (SOGEB) and the Malian Transmission and Diffusion Company (SMTD)..png?lu=855)
The countries aim to strengthen their national ICT infrastructure in a context marked by recurring disruptions to the Internet network caused by incidents on international links. Guinea currently has only one international submarine cable, although discussions are underway for a second link. For its part, Mali, which does not have access to the sea, must rely on interconnections with neighboring coastal countries for its international connectivity.
"The interconnection of optical fibers between Guinea and Mali will not only reduce connection costs, but also secure international communications, thus creating a more resilient and redundant network," said the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy of Guinea.
