The Burkinabe government has launched the connection of nine out of ten higher education and research institutions (IESR) to high-speed internet. Costing 3.8 billion CFA francs, the project was financed by the World Bank and was carried out with the technical assistance of Orange Burkina Faso.

“The support consisted of providing the Ministry of Higher Education with computer equipment. These are WiFi equipment which are installed in the nine IESRs. We also worked to connect the different buildings with very high bandwidth through fibre connectivity, without forgetting the training of 29 engineers who will ensure the monitoring and maintenance of the entire system for the sustainability of the project,” said Nafy Silué Coulibaly, CEO of Orange.

The Burkinabe head of state had instructed Adjima Thiombiano, minister of higher education, research and innovation, to provide the country's IESR with high-speed internet to develop e-learning by facilitating access to information and online educational resources.
