Jerry Silaa, Minister of ICT, said that the government was ready to find a balanced solution that would benefit both investors and telecom companies. This was during a working session with officials from his ministry and industry stakeholders, dedicated to the country's ten-year digital strategy (2024-2034).
"We get a lot of questions about when more companies will go public. But, as you explain, the performance of those that are already there has not been very convincing. I think the best way to develop a sector in a market economy is to let market forces act," said Silaa.
Vodacom’s stock was listed at Sh850 when it went public in 2017. It closed at Sh770 on Monday, February 24, 2025, according to the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE). In 2024, the company paid Sh11.93 in dividends per share, compared to Sh9.95 in 2023, for an average of Sh14.7 since 2017, according to data from Investing.com. This is in addition to a one-off bonus of Sh178.57 in 2020. No dividends were paid in 2021 and 2022.
