Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Al-Ghazouani has inaugurated a project to expand the telecommunications network in the Assaba region. The initiative aims to improve access to connectivity in border areas and support Mauritania's digital transformation.
This extension project is part of a broader plan to provide electronic communication services to the border regions of the south and southeast of the country. One of the main axes of this plan is to connect the cities of Ould Yenghé and Anbeket Lahouach, to strengthen connectivity in areas that have been isolated.
This initiative aligns with the government’s recent efforts to modernize the country’s digital infrastructure. In February 2024, Mauritania had already announced an investment of $30 million to develop its digital infrastructure. With the project, the government wants to facilitate ICT access, thus contributing to the economic and social development of the regions concerned.
