The National Assembly of Senegal is considering digitizing all parliamentary services.
El Malick Ndiaye, the new president of the National Assembly, stressed that this initiative is essential to strengthen efficiency, both internally and in terms of service provided to citizens.
This modernisation will include the creation of an interactive institutional website intended for both deputies and users, as well as the establishment of a parliamentary television channel. A project team has already been set up to monitor the process, according to a press release from the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs. The institutional site must be operational before 31 January 2025.
This initiative comes as Senegal has made digital technology a key pillar of its long-term development strategy ‘Senegal 2050’, through the ‘New Deal on Technology’. The ‘2024 World e-Parliament Report’ of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) indicates that digital tools are essential to the parliamentary mission, by promoting efficiency, good practices and accountability.
