Angola plans for national roaming

18 December 2024

The Angolan government wants to implement national roaming and infrastructure sharing between Unitel, Movicel and Africell to improve mobile coverage.

The ‘Iluminar Angola’ initiative’s national roaming will allow subscribers of a telecom operator to access services in areas where its network coverage is poor by using the network of another operator.

According to the Angolan Institute of Communications (INACOM), only 33% of the population, estimated at 36.7 million by the World Bank in 2023, had access to mobile internet as of 31 December 2023. On the same date, the mobile phone penetration rate was 76%.
