The Guinean government has completed work to increase the capacity of the national fibre optic backbone, which is increasing from 50GB to 200GB.
The backbone is the fibre optic network that carries Internet traffic across the country. By increasing its capacity, it can handle a much larger volume of data. This can mean faster connections and fewer slowdowns for end users, even during peak usage periods. In addition, the increased capacity should help ensure high-speed Internet services even for rural areas, which are often underserved.
This increase in capacity comes at a time when Guinean consumers frequently complain about the quality of services provided by telecom operators.
The good quality of service that should result from this backbone upgrade can improve the digital experience and create new opportunities for individuals and the wider community.
