Angola Cables is launching operations in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe, according to Sudhir Juggernath, CEO of TelCables, Angola Cables’ subsidiary, for Southern and Eastern Africa.
This initiative responds to the growing demand for high-speed connectivity in Africa, where operators are looking for robust solutions to support the rise of digital usage. The recent recurring submarine cable outages have also highlighted the urgency to diversify and strengthen infrastructure.
The expansion is expected to improve the quality of internet coverage in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe. While the expansion opens up revenue-increasing opportunities for Angola Cables, it first requires investment in fibre optic networks, which can be slowed by several obstacles, including regulations.
“Regulators need to talk. Regulators need to make it easier for operators and ISPs to roll out fibre optics or connectivity for the unconnected more quickly. It’s about making it easier to lay fibre, making it easier to run fibre through a city. We shouldn’t create barriers to laying fibre,” said Juggernath.
