Burkina Faso’s MNOs to improve quality

15 October 2024

Moov Burkina, Orange Burkina and Telecel Faso have made commitments to improve the quality of telecom services in the country.

This commitment was formalized by the signing of an agreement after a conclave organized with the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP) and the Ministry of Digital Transition, Posts and Electronic Communications. The objective is to meet the growing needs of consumers by improving services through the deployment of new sites and the acquisition of frequencies.

The quality of mobile services has deteriorated in Burkina Faso. Last August, the Minister of Digital Transition, Posts and Electronic Communications, Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, expressed her concern about acts of vandalism on telecoms infrastructure, particularly in areas affected by insecurity. These destructions affected network coverage by 10-20% in some regions, reducing access to mobile telephony and the internet. The government then decided to invest 3 billion CFA francs to restore the destroyed infrastructure. Orange, also affected by the situation, announced at the beginning of this month that around 15% of its telecom sites were inaccessible.

With this tripartite agreement between operators, ARCEP and the Ministry of Digital Transition, Burkina Faso hopes to see a significant improvement in the quality of telecom services.
