Senegal calls for cut price services

Alioune Sall, Senegalese Minister of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Economy, has asked telecom operators to make more efforts to reduce the costs of access to their services.

The minister asked the Telecommunications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARTP) to establish a tariff regulation capable of reconciling the balance of the sector with quality services for accessible electronic communications. Particular emphasis was placed on Internet access, which has become essential in household consumer products.

Senegalese telecom consumers regularly complain about the high cost of services provided by operators. Massokhna Kane, president of SOS Consommateurs, a consumer rights association, called for a permanent review of rates and their adaptation to consumers' purchasing power.

The call for affordable and quality telecom services is in line with the government's efforts to generalize the use of ICT and accelerate its ambition to make Senegal a benchmark in digital transformation in Africa by 2029.
