Tunisia calls for 5G licensees

05 July 2024

The Tunisian Ministry of Communication Technologies has launched a call for tenders for the allocation of 5G operating licenses.

Telecom operators interested in the commercial supply of 5G technology in Tunisia will have to submit their applications to the ministry between 3 July and 2 September. The launch of the call for tenders follows the approval of the 5G launch roadmap by the government in June. According to this roadmap, each of the Tunisian telecom operators will be entitled to 5MHz duplexed in the 700MHz band, 100MHz (TDD) in the 3.5GHz band. Three blocks of 20MHz will be available upon request from the operators. Other 5G frequency bands will be announced in later phases of deployment. The license will be valid for 15 years.

The deployment of 5G is part of the strategy of the Tunisian State relating to the digital development of the national territory aimed at developing digital infrastructure, generalizing very high-speed coverage throughout the national territory. The government is also seeking to accelerate the digitalization of the administration, secure the national cyberspace, guarantee digital sovereignty and establish a climate of digital trust essential to the realization of digitalization projects.
