This infrastructure aims to enhance mobile network access and digital services in the area, supporting economic growth and digital financial inclusion such as mobile banking and e-payments.

The tower will provide 2G, 3G, and 4G connectivity for MTN, Airtel, and Zamtel, serving over 10,000 residents within a 10km radius. It represents a key step in the government’s 51-Tower Project, which targets the construction of 80 towers nationwide by 2025 to connect underserved rural communities.

Minister Felix Mutati emphasized the strategic importance of the region, highlighting how improved connectivity will support agriculture, productivity, transparency, and social programs like the Farmer Input Support and social cash transfer initiatives.

ZICTA Director General Collins Mbulo highlighted that this effort extends beyond infrastructure, aiming to foster a sustainable digital ecosystem through device access, digital literacy, and online safety. He also noted ongoing collaborations with the Ministry of Education to promote digital learning and responsible online behaviour.

This project marks a significant move toward bridging Zambia’s digital divide, especially in remote rural areas, and empowering communities with essential digital tools and services.
