This ambitious initiative aligns with the Indian government’s National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM) and aims to drive innovation in advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, including prepaid electricity meters.

The smart meters will operate on Vi Business’s “IoT Smart Central” platform, which offers comprehensive visibility and control over millions of connected devices. This platform will enable distribution companies to reduce aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses and provide consumers with real-time insights into their energy consumption, fostering greater transparency and efficiency.

Vi Business highlighted its extensive experience in managing smart meter deployments in India over the past five years, during which it has developed scalable and resilient AMI solutions tailored for the energy sector. The company’s structured methodologies for pre- and post-installation processes ensure seamless integration and rapid deployment across diverse regions. Additionally, Vi Business operates an IoT Lab dedicated to rigorous testing and certification, enabling faster and more reliable rollouts of advanced metering solutions.

“We pioneered the deployment of smart meters in 2018 and introduced innovations like our IoT Lab. Our ongoing commitment is to deploy 12 million smart meters to help reduce energy losses, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the consumer experience across the country,” said Arvind Nevatia, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at Vi.

The NSGM, established by the Indian government in 2015, aims to implement and monitor smart grid initiatives to enhance the reliability of electricity networks, facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources, and empower consumers to manage their electricity usage more effectively, ultimately reducing their bills. Vi’s deployment strategy supports these national objectives, contributing to India’s vision of a smarter, more sustainable energy future.
