Under this agreement, MICTH will grant U Mobile access to its tower and site infrastructure within the state, along with comprehensive support to streamline and expedite site installations. Both parties will collaborate to develop an efficient process for deploying 5G infrastructure, aiming to enable faster and wider coverage expansion throughout Malacca.
U Mobile’s CTO, Woon Ooi Yuen, stated that the partnership is a key step toward reaching the company’s goal of achieving 80% nationwide coverage of populated areas by the second half of 2026: “this MoU will enhance 5G connectivity in Malacca, benefiting both consumers and businesses.”
Malacca’s Chief Minister, Ab Rauf bin Yusoh, who attended the signing ceremony, highlighted that current coverage stands at 99.97% for 4G and 89.7% for 5G, with average speeds exceeding 121 Mbps. The state aims to achieve 100% coverage for both networks by 2027, underscoring its commitment to digital connectivity and transformation.
