This milestone marks the first time a hotel in Malaysia boasts comprehensive 5G coverage across every floor, including ballrooms, meeting rooms, event spaces, and shared guest areas, thanks to Edotco’s in-building 5G infrastructure.

U Mobile highlighted that the Ultra5G network is equipped to support advanced applications such as 4K livestreaming for conferences and ultra-immersive virtual meetings, made possible by the network’s low latency, high capacity, and network slicing capabilities. The deployment aims to demonstrate how 5G can revolutionize the hospitality and MICE sectors by enhancing efficiency, safety, and guest experiences while unlocking new possibilities for digital interactions and events.

Woon Ooi Yuen, CTO of U Mobile, described the installation as a showcase for 5G-enabled smart hotel applications, emphasizing its potential to transform the guest experience and operational efficiency. Gayan Koralage, Edotco’s director of Malaysia operations, remarked that this initiative ensures building owners, operators, and technology providers can deliver seamless connectivity, ultimately fostering better digital experiences for Malaysians and generating broader economic benefits for the country.

Mohd Salem Kailany, CEO of KLCC Property Holdings, which owns the Mandarin Oriental and other properties in Kuala Lumpur City Centre, stated that the availability of 5G at the hotel is a crucial step toward future-proofing guest experiences and reinforcing Kuala Lumpur’s reputation as a premier hospitality, MICE, and tourism destination.

The Mandarin Oriental launch exemplifies U Mobile’s strategic focus on enhancing indoor coverage at high-impact locations as part of its Ultra5G rollout, which was officially launched last month. Yuen indicated that this deployment is just the beginning, with plans to expand Ultra5G coverage to more key sites nationwide, including airports, hospitals, and convention centers, underlining the company’s commitment to providing Malaysia with the widest and deepest 5G coverage.

Following its partnership deal with Edotco at this year’s Mobile World Congress, U Mobile has also engaged EdgePoint Infrastructure and OCK Telco Infra, a subsidiary of OCK Group, as preferred partners for 5G in-building coverage. The operator aims to achieve 80% 5G coverage of populated areas by the second half of 2026, supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation ambitions.
