Tunisie Télécom has rolled out its 5G non-standalone (5G NSA) services, which feature enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and fixed wireless access (FWA) tailored for residential customers.
The rollout follows the formal awarding of licenses at a ceremony attended by the Tunisian head of government and the Minister of Communication Technologies. Ericsson reported that the 5G deployment utilizes Time Division Duplexing (TDD) sites operating in the 3.5GHz frequency band, alongside repurposed 4G spectrum, specifically in the 2100MHz and 1800MHz frequency ranges.
With this implementation, high-speed 5G TDD sites have recorded impressive download speeds of up to 2.1 Gbit/s, marking the first use of this frequency band in Tunisia. This development not only facilitates wider spectrum availability but also enhances connectivity for users across the country.
“Despite the very tight schedule and the relatively complex network architecture, we have managed to combine our efforts and complete this launch on time and with excellence,” said Tahar Labidi, Senior Account Manager at Ericsson.
The rollout of 5G services by Tunisie Télécom signifies a major step forward in enhancing Tunisia’s mobile infrastructure and is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s digital transformation and economic growth.
