According to reports from the Associated Press, the explosion and subsequent fire injured approximately 145 individuals and displaced 305 residents. On 1 April, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan noted that 219 homes were damaged, with 87 homes experiencing major damage.
TM indicated that the restoration of the affected network infrastructure would be done in phases, contingent upon receiving clearance from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba) and other relevant authorities. Due to the explosion and subsequent heavy rainfall, the area remains unstable, and it is expected to take around ten days to stabilize the ground before reconstruction efforts can begin.
To assist affected customers, TM announced that customers subscribed to its Unifi Home service will receive a waiver on their bills for at least one month, depending on the progress of the network restoration. The company will also extend credit terms to 60 days without service suspension, replace any damaged customer premises equipment (CPE) such as routers and modems at no charge, and provide free on-site support and standard internal wiring services.
Additionally, TM is offering free Wi-Fi at temporary evacuation centres and distributing essential supplies to affected families through the government’s disaster response network, GLC Demi Rakyat & Negara (GDRN).
“We are mobilizing all necessary resources to restore services swiftly and provide immediate relief to our impacted customers and communities,” said TM Group CEO Amar Huzaimi Md Deris.
In a collaborative effort, CelcomDigi also committed to supporting customers affected by the explosion by setting up assistance counters at relief centres located at Putra Heights Mosque and Dewan Camelia. They will offer services such as postpaid bill waivers, prepaid credit, SIM replacements, and the distribution of power banks.
