Smartcom expands mission-critical push-to-talk services to Indonesia

Since 2015, Smartcom has collaborated with TASSTA, a global leader in mission-critical communication solutions headquartered in Germany, and operator Singtel to provide reliable PTT communication coverage within Singapore. The company acknowledges that expanding into a market as large and diverse as Indonesia presents a new set of challenges and opportunities.

Indonesia represents a growing market with substantial potential for mission-critical communication solutions. With a developing digital economy, government initiatives such as the ‘100 Smart Cities’ program, and a workforce of approximately 160 million people, the country offers fertile ground for the expansion of PTT services.

Furthermore, the adoption of TASSTA’s solutions by key Indonesian entities, including the national police force and the national railway operator, underscores the existing demand for large-scale, reliable communication systems within critical industries.

Smartcom also identifies opportunities within Indonesia’s industrial landscape, particularly in the mining and oil and gas sectors, which require specialized push-to-talk solutions tailored to their unique operational environments. Additionally, large-scale events, such as national celebrations and religious gatherings, necessitate PTT communication systems that can maintain functionality even during periods of high network congestion.

As part of its expansion strategy, Smartcom is partnering with Telkomsel, Indonesia’s largest telecommunications provider, to secure priority bandwidth during high-traffic events. The company is also offering solutions designed for hazardous environments, such as ATEX-certified mobile phones and tablets. ATEX refers to the EU directives outlining minimum safety requirements for workplaces and equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres. These specialized devices provide reliable communication tools for companies operating in high-risk settings, such as those in the oil and gas industry.

Smartcom views its regional expansion into Indonesia as a key component of its long-term strategy to enlarge its customer base and extend its services into new markets. By entering the Indonesian market, Smartcom aims to scale its offerings and strengthen its regional footprint within the mission-critical communications sector.
