Chief Enterprise Business Officer Cynthia Kropac stated that the initiative aims to go beyond traditional connectivity, fostering advanced digital services, innovation, and regional productivity.
Speaking at the Connected Africa Summit in Kenya, Kropac emphasized Africa’s unique opportunity to shape its own AI trajectory. She highlighted the importance of developing foundational infrastructure, harmonizing data and digital laws, and supporting local solutions for challenges like multilingual education, climate-smart agriculture, and mobile health diagnostics.
Safaricom has already trained 5,000 employees in AI fundamentals, positioning itself as a leader in building an inclusive AI ecosystem. The investment will also fund data centres, edge computing, and digital skills programs to empower local developers and enterprises in various sectors.
Kropac reaffirmed Safaricom’s commitment to delivering seamless, intelligent, and inclusive digital experiences, driving socio-economic growth and empowering communities through bold investments in connectivity, partnerships, and AI innovation.
