Nokia and Converge ICT to future-proof data centres with AI-driven network fabric

As part of the agreement, Converge ICT will implement Nokia’s 7220 Interconnect Router (IXR) data centre switches, which operate with the next-generation SR-Linux network operating system (NOS) and an event-driven automation (EDA) platform. The EDA platform is designed to deliver faster response times, consistent high performance, and reduced energy consumption through efficient use of computing resources. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Converge ICT CEO and co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy stated that the new solution will enable the company to enhance network performance, scalability, and operational efficiency, while also improving service agility. This will help deliver a high-quality, reliable experience as demand for AI-driven workloads continues to grow.

“As Converge and other innovative tech companies increasingly host AI applications, seamless integration with existing systems is critical,” said Uy. “We see AI workloads and high-performance computing as essential to our future operations, and we’re preparing our data centre networks for extreme scalability and reliability.”

The deployment also aims to make Converge’s data centres more compliant with data sovereignty regulations and more sustainable by leveraging automation to reduce energy use, according to Paulo Martin Santos, Converge’s Chief Network Transformation Officer.

“The use of automation and AI will enable us to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize network operations, giving us a competitive advantage,” Santos said.

Earlier in July 2024, Converge ICT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with US-based IT solutions provider Supermicro to build three ‘green’ AI data centres in Pampanga, Laguna, and Caloocan. Designed by Supermicro, these centres will host servers equipped with Nvidia GPUs capable of supporting generative AI applications, including a national large language model (LLM), smart manufacturing, and video generation tools.
