“The 6GHz band, which extends from 5925MHz to 7125MHz, provides a substantial increase in available spectrum, which is essential to meet the growing demand for high-speed Internet and advanced applications. Wi-Fi plays a crucial role in distributing fixed broadband connectivity in homes, offices and various other environments,” said Aminu Maida.
Sccording to Aminu Maida, the main reason for the future deployment of the 6 GHz band is explained by the increase in demand for capacity.
“The vast majority of domestic internet traffic is connected to the end user via Wi-Fi. In businesses, Wi-Fi is essential to process large amounts of data and connect a large number of devices simultaneously with increased reliability, higher data throughput and lower latency times,” said Maida.
The deployment of the 6GHz band will enable greater capacity for advanced technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, while making Wi-Fi more accessible, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. The initiative could also boost start-ups and reduce the costs of wireless Internet access.
