Situated in Epinga, in the rural Ohangwena region, this new infrastructure aims to deliver 4G voice and data services to communities that have historically lacked access to commercial coverage.
This development is expected to significantly improve connectivity in remote villages and public facilities, including a primary school and a health clinic. The government highlights that expanding 4G access will support digital education, telemedicine services, and the increased use of online administrative platforms.
The Namibian government has allocated approximately 145 million Namibian dollars (around US$8.4 million) to the USF program to fast-track the deployment of digital infrastructure nationwide. According to the telecommunications regulator, this initiative will see nine additional 4G towers connect about 4,765 Namibians, with seven years of free 4G service provided to 16 schools and four clinics.
This project aligns with the broader national goal of achieving universal connectivity for basic services in underserved areas. The government has already identified further regions, particularly in Kunene and Kavango, where additional USF towers are planned in the medium term to extend coverage.
