Through its subsidiary, Edge Network Services Limited, Meta has signed Safaricom as a landing partner for a new high-capacity submarine cable linking Oman and Kenya. This project aims to boost Kenya’s international bandwidth, reduce latency, and support the growing demand for digital services, cloud adoption, and economic development.
“This deal is a significant strategic milestone for us as we celebrate 25 years and aligns with our Vision 2030 to become a fully-fledged tech company. It positions us to meet the surging demand for high-capacity, low-latency connectivity that is critical for powering economic growth and digital innovation in Kenya and beyond,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom.
The partnership underscores Safaricom’s commitment to delivering resilient, future-proof connectivity and positioning itself as Africa’s leading purpose-led technology company by 2030. The new undersea cable system will be fully funded by Edge Network Services, with locally licensed operators in Kenya and Oman contracted to operate the cable within territorial waters and manage related in-country infrastructure.
