Patrick Kabambe, CEO of the PPPC, highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader effort to connect all citizens. “Soon, the Commission and MACRA will erect 98 towers across the country, which will greatly improve quality of service,” he stated during a meeting in Lilongwe on Wednesday, organized by MACRA.

The PPPC functions as Malawi’s primary implementation agency for public-private partnerships, focusing on accelerating infrastructure development by mobilizing private sector investment. The tower rollout is expected to significantly improve coverage and connectivity, supporting the country’s growing digital needs.

MACRA’s acting director general, Mayamiko Nkoloma, emphasized the importance of multi-sector collaboration for building a resilient digital ecosystem. “Despite efforts across different sectors, progress remains slow because many tend to work in silos, leading to duplication of efforts,” he remarked. He called for greater coordination among stakeholders, including partnerships with institutions like Malawi University of Science and Technology, to foster innovation and develop locally relevant content and applications accessible to Malawians.

This initiative reflects Malawi’s commitment to expanding digital infrastructure and fostering an environment where public and private sectors work together to accelerate the country’s digital transformation. The new towers are expected to improve connectivity, support economic growth, and bridge the digital divide across the nation.
